Plans for the future?
We've been talking about doing Avatar: The Last Airbender after Pokemon, so I thought about making a thread for it.
Thoughts?
Personally, I would be THRILLED to do Avatar, but we would have to write all the music/script. It's harder than you might think. I mean, it took the PWMP almost two years to get where it is now, and we're definitely a smaller group than they are. All the same, if it's possible, I so want to DO IT. Avatar is amazing.

Yea, it'd be a lot of fun. I'd be very down with helping write and produce stuff.
It was kinda a goofy idea at first. But we would do real auditions, no Mrs. Sugerik crap. lol
Members would probably have to learn a thing or two about the martial arts being demonstrated throughout the series. Also, we'd need quite a few people... aside the main characters, we need pleeeenty of extras to be "bending" people (manipulating effects), villagers, soldiers, maybe even animals like Appa.
I think the filler episode right before Sozin's Comet (Ember Island Players or something) is a good representation of how it would look... haha. (Also since Aang is a girl, lol)

Re: Plans for the future?
Agreed. XD
I actually really like the idea of using streamers to 'bend'. It's really visually pleasing.
Di and I have some experience in writing music - and we might even get some PWMP members on board to help out - a good chunk of them are Avatar addicts like us. <3

Re: Plans for the future?
should we focus on a particular season, or the whole thing with alot of stuff cut out?
while it would be cool to do the whole thing, it would probubly be a little much.
but if we had to do just one season, it would have to be the first one.

Although I am not an Avatar fan, I would be so down with this. I'd even let you guys force feed the entire series on me! XD
Also, I could help with musicianship skills, if need be.

Re: Plans for the future?
I think whatever we do, we'll probably have to end up writing it ourselves; I don't think very many anime/video game musicals exist (or if they do, I'm not familiar with them). It'd be an easier deal than the PWMP, though, because we'd only have to write the songs and scenes we needed. And if we decide on the subject fairly soon, then we'd have a while to work on it.
Anyway, I haven't yet gotten around to watching Avatar, though I've heard awesome things about it, so I'd be up for that.

Cookie: >:l You won't even give it a chance.
I'm totally all for an Avatar musical. But I'm not sure we could pull it off. There would be martial arts studying, song writing, script writing, and rehearsal on top of all that. And we still haven't perfected this musical.
So if we started writing the songs now, and rehearsing for the musical in summertime. We could pull this off methinks.

"I'd even let you guys force feed the entire series on me!" - I hardly call that not giving it a chance.
Anyhow, from what I saw it wasn't exactly my cup of tea. Not EVERY last single person on the planet will be an Avatar fan. It doesn't happen that way. But, I will give it another shot in case the episodes I saw weren't the right ones to start watching the show on. Keep in mind, I'l have to do that over Christmas break because I don't have the time to do it now.

Re: Plans for the future?
Isn't Avatar kind of... I dunno, long? I mean, there's a lot of filler that can be cut ("Look! It's the Great Divide, the biggest canyon in the Earth Kingdom! Eh, let's keep flying") but even if you cut out two episodes for every one you leave in, that leaves you with 440 minutes to adapt.

Re: Plans for the future?
Well, the thing about - what is becoming - our performance style is that we don't do a full show. For cons, I find revue shows to work best.
So basically, we won't have to adapt the entire first season. We'd write certain scenes, mainly the big ones, and mix it in with a few songs, filling the audience in as we go along. It's like... Avatar, the musical, abridged? XD

Re: Plans for the future?
That would be rather difficult, as most of the Zelda fanbase sees Link as a mute. XD
Re: Plans for the future?
Is that the plan for the Pokemon show as well, or do you plan to stage the full production?SerenityTuelaulosVegeta wrote:Well, the thing about - what is becoming - our performance style is that we don't do a full show. For cons, I find revue shows to work best.
On a related note, are we any closer to having the actual script?

Re: Plans for the future?
That is the current plan for Pokemon as well.
We have some scenes, but that's about all Nintendo will give us. We've decided to write a few scenes ourselves - we have a detailed enough synopsis to do so.

Re: Plans for the future?
So I was thinking about what else we might be able to do in the future...
In the realm of video games, any Final Fantasy game would provide plenty of material. My vote would probably be for 7, because it's the only one I've played...and because there were some really awesome song ideas on Aman's blog. I couldn't think of any other games that would makes good musicals, though.
In terms of anime, well, FMA's always a crowd pleaser. And Code Geass would lend itself to a musical really well, considered how melodramatic it already is. XD The original Gundam series might work as well. I dunno, I guess I haven't seen many series that would make good musicals. >_>
I'd be ridiculously excited for Robotech: The Musical, though.

Re: Plans for the future?
Personally, if we went back to video games, I'd want Final Fantasy IX. Not just because it's my favorite, but because I feel that it would adapt to a musical more easily than the others. Plus, the music in IX is totally amazing.
Problem is, we'd totally need A-man to come down and be Zidane. No question.
As far as anime besides Avatar, I concur with Fullmetal, as it's a big favorite among the masses. I haven't seen Code Geass, personally, and I don't think Gundam would work on stage very well. XD
Dude, I can't really see Robotech working either, but omgomgomg that would totally be awesome. <3333

Re: Plans for the future?
Oh yeah...I guess I wasn't really thinking about the mechanics of giant robots on stage. XD
If we can find a way around that, I definitely say we do Robotech. <333 My life would be complete.

Re: Plans for the future?
Hrm. I would have to agree with Kemi for the FF thing. Personally, I think IX didn't get enough love so if we DID do a FF musical, I think it'd be nice to do IX and give it the respect is deserves.
And yes, A-man needs to come and be our Zidane. :l
If we do FFIX, we should invite Katethegreat to come.

Re: Plans for the future?
AGREED. I almost wanna do FFIX more than Avatar now, just because I feel like it a) it more under-appreciated and deserves more praise and b) would adapt to a musical way more cleanly.Mintflavoredgum wrote:Hrm. Also, omgomgomg we shouuullldddd, I was totally thinking about how we could ask her permission to use one or two of her FFIX songs. <3
Re: Plans for the future?
I still want to do Avatar. D:
I think, yes, it'd be easier to make songs for FFIX, but I think it'd be a good challenge for us as a group to make Avatar: The Musical.
We should do both. :l
FFIX first, then Avatar later maybe.

I've taken the liberty of penning one such scene:SerenityTuelaulosVegeta wrote:That is the current plan for Pokemon as well.

[Ext. Forest, near a sinister-looking, run-down building. Enter DELIA and PROFESSOR OAK.]Suddenly, Team Rocket members rush out of the shadows and surround them. There is no Pokemon lecture here; it was just a trap by Giovanni to lure Professor Oak into his clutches so he couldn't interfere with his latest scheme. Giovanni recognizes Ash's mom, saying how long it's been since he saw her last.
OAK: It’s just up ahead, Delia.
DELIA: Oh! Well, here we are. I hope the lecture is –
Suddenly, several TEAM ROCKET GOONS spring out of the shrubbery, surrounding DELIA and OAK.
OAK: Team Rocket?! What’s the meaning of this?
The building’s doors open and GIOVANNI enters, laughing maniacally.
GIOVANNI: Oak, you fool! You’ve fallen right into my trap!
OAK: Giovanni! I should have known you’d be behind this. I still remember the day I gave you your first pokemon – anyone who asks for a Rattata as his starter is definitely up to no good.
DELIA: Did you say… Giovanni?
Barbara Streisand’s “Way We Were” begins to play in the background, as the stage lights focus on DELIA and GIOVANNI.
GIOVANNI: Delia Ketchum? This is indeed an unexpected… pleasure.
DELIA: No, you mustn’t! We swore we would never again speak of our torrid and (considering the age difference between us) rather creepy love affair!
OAK: Your what?!
GIOVANNI: Come now, bumblebee. Papa bear still wants some honey.
The two run toward each other in slow motion. Meanwhile, the bushes rustle and ASH enters.
ASH: Well, it looks like I’ve found the – oh, hey Mom! What are you doing here? And… with Team Rocket?!
DELIA: I’ve got something important to tell you, dear. A long time ago, Giovanni and I were gazing up at the stars on Route 1, and, well, we were feeling very passionate. Passionate and confused. And one thing led to another, and –
ASH: Ew, mom! You shouldn’t tell those kinds of stories to kids!
DELIA: Oh, sorry, I forgot that after all this time, you’re still only ten years old. Anyway, I’ve decided to remarry… your father.
ASH: WHAT?!
GIOVANNI: I’m so happy to see you, son. We can finally be a family again!
ASH sputters, lost for words.
GIOVANNI: Say, would you like to take a ride on my killer robot?
ASH: …Okay.
